Our Story
Matt here, the creator of Teton Moto Rally.

We arrived here through a series of fortunate events. I was born and raised in Chicago and lived in the city until I was 22. One day I had an epiphany: I was going to sell all my possessions and move to Arizona to find a life of adventure. Three months later, I was hitching a ride out west (thanks, Mom!) with a road bike and a duffle bag full of climbing gear.

I enrolled at Prescott College to earn a bachelor’s degree in Adventure Education. In Prescott, I learned the value and magic of experiential education. I sweated, starved, and burned my way through the deserts of the Southwest while learning the business of professional guiding. Around this time in my life, I fell in love with mountain biking and simultaneously began yearning for a new KTM dirt bike—one I could in no way afford. I bought my first mountain bike for $60; it was way too small and mechanically unsound, but I rode it until the wheels literally imploded.
Two years later, I saved enough money to buy a slightly better bicycle and committed to riding the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. I started at the Mexican border and rode north to Montana, finishing at the Canadian border. It took me 35 days—I averaged around 100 miles each day on rough dirt roads and slept under the stars every night. I lived off gas-station food and bad coffee. I was living the dream.

Since that fateful trip in 2013, I’ve been chasing the adventure lifestyle both professionally and personally. I spent nearly a decade guiding teenagers on month-long expeditions into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In my free time between trips, I would race endurance mountain bike events. As I saved money, I finally bought my first motorcycle—the venerable KLR 650.
Now living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, I spent summers exploring backroads and pushing the limits of the KLR on singletrack. As my obsession with motorcycles grew, I built a healthy stable of dirt bikes and adventure bikes (I finally got my KTM). In 2026, I plan to race the Baja 1000 solo in the Ironman division.

I’ve always dreamed of owning an adventure-based business. After moving to Irwin, Idaho, and buying a cute little house surrounded by some of the best mountain riding in the Western states, the choice to start Teton Moto Rally was clear. I’m charmed by a life that has afforded me so much adventure and reward. Now it’s time to share my passion with the world.
